A highly important pair of Irish carved giltwood and gesso Side Tables, c. 1738, each rectangular top with barons coronet, on an oval issuing scrolling foliage, 'C' scrolls, with re-entrant corners, above a conforming frieze with similar scrolls and centred with a lion mask issuing large swags from an open mouth, the apron with carved and pierced decoration, raised on four leaf capped cabriole legs, terminating in lion paw and ball feet, some damage and loss, w.a.f., approx. 30" high x 44" wide x 24" deep (77cms x 113cms x 61cms). Table 1 - 78cms high x 62cms deep x 114cms wide  Table 2 - 75cms high x 62cms deep x 112cms wide.  
Provenance:  According to James Peill and The Knight of Glin (page 83 Irish Furniture) almost certainly supplied to the 14th Lord Howth.
