The Cornwall Papers 

Large File of Documents relating to Justices of the Peace, Captain Robert Cornwall 1795-1811, (over 80 documents) and his son Major John Cornwall 1814 - 1826 of Myshall, Carlow, (over 150 documents) plus Cornwall Brady file of accounts and indentures. Extensive file of documents detailing Recognizances, Statements and Informations concerning robbery, rape, assault, killing and maiming of animals, land disputes, indentures, rental accounts, all signed with names and addresses of informants and perpetrators records.
Robert Cornwall of Myshall Lodge was regarded as a notorious and severe magistrate during the 1798 period. He served as Captain of the Myshall Cavalry and Infantry. He served on the Grand Jury and was a Justice of the Peace and High Sheriff.
Peadar MacSuibhne in his book 98 in Carlow, stated Myshall during this period was governed by Captain Cornwall, a notorious character. he was the military officer for the district and the magistrate. He tortured many of the United Irishmen and forced them to name names and give details of the plans for a rising, he gathered all the military intelligence for the County of Carlow and sent it to Lord Castlereagh in Dublin Castle.
His son Major John Cornwall served as One of His Majesty's Justice of the peace 1814 - 1826.
In 1830 the Cornwall Estate was inherited by a nephew of John's wife, John Beauchamp Brady, who added the name Cornwall to his own. (1)
