"The Adventures of Scotland's only Original Bo Whang." Military sketchbook containing in cartoon and rhyme the story of "Bo Whang". Compiled by a Great War veteran of the West Kent Regiment "who, as a result of injuries sustained in the war, became a long-term resident at Greenock Military Hospital ?.. The jotter was left to Dr Michael Harrington, a doctor in the hospital from 1930s to 1950s." 21.5 x 14 cm. 48 ff. Bo Whang is an anarchic Highland soldier who runs into trouble following an unfortunate encounter between a misdirected caber and a policeman. He joins the French Foreign Legion, subtly changing his name to Beau Whang (P.C. Wren's Beau Geste was published in 1924 and first filmed in 1926), has many further adventures, and makes an amazing (if unlikely) return to his homeland. As a Sketchbook, w.a.f. (1)
