[Johnson (Rev. Samuel)]  Julian the Apsostate Being a Short Account of his Life, together with a Comparison of Popery and Paganism, sm. 8vo L. (Langley Curtis) 1682, First Edn., XXIV pps., 1 - 168pps (complete) inscribed Robt. Davis (title page) last page mis-numbered '94' but 'Finis', worming to front pages at bottom from start to page 21, (and top right throughout not affecting text), contemporary full calf (worn). Extremely Scarce [Wing J830]. (1)

Footnote: Samuel Johnson (1649-1703) in this book made popery a modern paganism, portrayed the Duke of York in the character of Julian, and boldly argued on constitutional grounds against unconditional obedience. A long controversy followed which led to the author's arrest and trial, and suffered persecution to the end of his life.
